Colour, Colour, Colour

How interested in colour am I? I love it! I've really enjoyed reading info from the Colour Matters website. It's so interesting! Especially bits about Colour-blindness and also articles about the colour blue suppressing appetite! Fascinating!

I want to make sure I use the most effective colour scheme on my website, but also I need to make sure it's good from an accessible point of view. Which colours are good to use? Are there any I should avoid? Will I have a larger male market than female? In which case should I go for brighter, cooler colours? How will my Lemon logo fit into all this?

GD in Context - Initial Ideas

I could do my Graphic Design in Context as a base for learning computer programming, all the platforms, history etc. How it is written - but try and make it interesting and memorable.

This actually could be a good idea, as it may help me to dejargonise it!!!

Types of languages are: HTML, PHP, Javascript, ASP, ASP.NET, Java, C#, C++ etc. I'd need to show how they are constructed, ie the syntax (operators, functions, if & else statements etc). Platforms are Windows & Unix / Linux etc

Thoughts are how to explain a difficult subject to people with little or no knowledge. I would probably have to make it quite comical - eg Bill Yates fighting the rest of the world!

There is a lot of history in Computer / Web Programming and also I could produce examples of work showing scripting I've written.

What have I learned about myself?

• To not be too rigid on a train of thought (design-wise). Before I get an idea in my head, I find it very hard to explore other avenues.
• Tutorials and advice from others will help keep me on track. Iv'e realised just how much my knowledge of current trends is lacking. When I used Century Gothic - very much to my liking but out-dated apparently. I should have known that really.
• We studied learning styles and my style is "Supporter with analyst tendencies" and also "Reflective" - 2 separate learning style analysis methods. Very interesting! Reflective shows why I like doing research and also how I love order so much!!!
• We need to interview someone for the Graphic Design in Context. This worries me slightly... who should I interview??? Possibly the husband of someone at work. He's a computer programmer. As this is a real growing interest it might be useful to determine what "real life as a programmer" is like!
• Need to get feedback from people I interview, then reflect on that advice
• Need to look into Fresh and Refreshing before I work up any logo. In fact based on the above, it may be worth me waiting until after my next tutorial / critique to make sure I'm on track
• I also need to keep in mind that whatever design I come up with, it needs to work on screen and on paper (ie business cards)
• I want to develop my style and my process. At the moment I do a lot of research, but come up with ordinary results. Why? Do I just play it safe? Is it lack of knowledge? Is it that I'm just not good enough yet? Lack of confidence? Whatever it is, I want to also be more experienced and talented as a graphic designer

Refreshing Logo

After this week's class, I realise I need to look more into Fresh and illustrations that represent fresh and refreshing BEFORE doing any more logo work.

I feel really excited about this course at the moment, as it will help launch my business.

What do I want from this course?

To have a successful business in the making.
I want to be firmly branded and have self-belief in that brand.
I want to be out there with the competition.

I don't want to come across too "high up there" and unreachable.
I want to show who I am - someone professional who is approachable and deals in straight-talk: "What you see is what you get"

I want to earn respect from others around me, family & friends, work colleagues etc.
I want to bring straight-talking to the individual - not blind them with science. I do tend to jargonise a little when discussing coding so that's something I need to work on. It would be nice to have someone I could talk about code with, as everything I've learnt is self-taught.
